Preparing for the Enterprise Big Data Professional exam? This guide breaks down everything you need to know to pass the Enterprise Big Data Professional certification exam, from exam structure to proven study strategies.
What Is the EBDP® Certification?
The Enterprise Big Data Professional (EBDP®) is an entry-level certification within the DASCIN® Enterprise Big Data Framework, administered by APMG International. It is designed for anyone who wants to establish a strong, recognized foundation in Big Data concepts, frameworks, and practices, without needing any programming or technical implementation skills.
There are no mandatory prerequisites to enroll, making it one of the most accessible Big Data qualifications on the market. The certification is also a recommended stepping stone toward the more advanced Enterprise Big Data Analyst (EBDA®) and Enterprise Big Data Engineer (EBDE®) qualifications.
💡 Good to know: The EBDP® certification does not expire. Once earned, it remains valid indefinitely — no recertification required.

Understanding Bloom’s Taxonomy Levels
The EBDP exam applies Bloom’s Taxonomy to structure its assessments. Knowing which levels are tested tells you how to study, not just what to study.
Level 1 (Recall) questions require you to remember specific facts — names, definitions, sequences. For example: knowing the four Vs of Big Data or the five steps of a Big Data strategy.
Level 2 (Understanding) questions require you to interpret and explain concepts — not just name them. You need to understand why a clustering algorithm behaves differently from a classification algorithm, or how Hadoop handles hardware failures.
💡 Study tip: For every concept you memorize, ask yourself, “Can I explain why or how this works in plain language?” If yes, you’re at Bloom’s Level 2 — and you’re exam-ready on that topic.
Know Your Question Types
All 60 questions are multiple-choice with four answer options. However, they come in four distinct formats — and knowing each format changes your approach.
The 8 Syllabus Areas — What You Need to Know
The exam draws from eight syllabus areas, each worth a defined number of marks. Study them all, but pay special attention to areas with the highest learning objective counts — particularly Algorithms, Processes, and Architecture.
A 5-Step Study Strategy for Big Data Exam Preparation
Use this structured approach to maximize your preparation efficiency within a realistic timeframe of 2–4 weeks.
- Read the Enterprise Big Data Professional Guide Cover to Cover: The EBDP Guide is your single official study resource. Every exam question is traceable to a specific section of this guide. Read it in full at least once before anything else. Pay attention to definitions, numbered lists, and any named frameworks or models — these are prime exam material.
- Map the Syllabus to the Guide: The official syllabus includes a “Book Reference” column for every learning outcome. Use this as your revision checklist. For each learning outcome, locate the guide section, read it, then close the book and summarize the key points in your own words — this tests Bloom’s Level 2 understanding.
- Memorize Key Lists and Sequences: The exam frequently tests recall of structured lists: the four Vs, the five strategy steps, the six Big Data Framework capabilities, the eight data analysis steps, the five maturity levels, the four AI capabilities. Create flashcards or a one-page cheat sheet. Sequences (which step comes first?) are especially common.
- Practice All 60 Sample Paper Questions: The official sample paper contains 60 questions with detailed rationales for every answer — including why each wrong option is incorrect. Don’t just check the answers; read every rationale. Wrong-answer explanations reveal what the exam is actually testing and help you avoid common traps.
- Apply the “Eliminate and Verify” Method on Exam Day: For each question: (1) eliminate clearly wrong answers first, (2) verify your remaining options against the precise wording of the question, (3) for list-type questions, evaluate each numbered item independently before selecting a combination. Never skip a question — guess if you must, since there’s no negative marking.
Certification Details & Next Steps
Once you pass the EBDP exam, here’s what to expect:
Advanced Certification Pathways: The EBDP is the entry point of the Enterprise Big Data Framework. After passing, you can pursue:
- Enterprise Big Data Analyst (EBDA®) — Focused on advanced analytical methods and interpreting data insights for strategic use.
- Enterprise Big Data Engineer (EBDE®) — Focused on designing and building data infrastructure and engineering solutions.
While EBDP is not a mandatory prerequisite for either, the conceptual grounding it provides is strongly recommended before advancing.
Appeals Process: If you believe there was an error in your exam administration (procedural issues, personal or medical circumstances, or bias), you may appeal to APMG International within 6 months of the exam date. Note that disagreement with multiple-choice answers does not qualify as grounds for appeal.
