Green IT Workshop

DASCIN Brings Green IT to Malaysia’s State Government Officials

On 21–22 May 2026, DASCIN delivered a two-day Green IT Workshop for Malaysian State Government officials – bringing structured, framework-based sustainability education to one of the most important audiences in the region’s digital transformation journey.

The workshop brought together State Government officials for an immersive two-day programme combining a structured overview of the DASCIN Green IT Framework with hands-on sessions designed to translate concept into practice. Participants left with a clearer understanding of how their organizations’ IT operations contribute to environmental impact – and, crucially, what they can do about it.

Why Government Officials?

Government agencies are among the largest operators of IT infrastructure in any country. From national databases and citizen service platforms to office networks spanning thousands of workstations, the environmental footprint of public sector IT is significant – and largely unmeasured.

At the same time, governments are uniquely positioned to lead. Public sector sustainability commitments carry reputational and policy weight that private sector initiatives do not. When government officials understand Green IT – not just as a concept, but as a practical management discipline – it creates a ripple effect that extends to the agencies they lead, the vendors they procure from, and the standards they set for the organizations they regulate.

What the Workshop Covered

Over the two days, participants worked through the DASCIN Green IT Framework’s core components – Hardware, Software, Processes, Practices, and Data Storage – exploring how each applies in a public sector context. The overview sessions introduced the framework’s architecture and the measurement disciplines that underpin credible sustainability reporting.

The hands-on sessions gave participants the tools to begin applying the framework to their own organizational context: mapping their current IT environmental footprint, identifying quick wins, and building the foundations of a Green IT strategy that can be taken back and put to immediate use.

Building Awareness That Leads to Action

The response from participants was clear: the workshop opened their eyes to dimensions of IT sustainability they had not previously considered. For many, it was the first structured engagement with Green IT as a management framework rather than a vague environmental aspiration. That shift – from awareness to structured understanding – is exactly where sustainable change begins.

Green IT implementation does not start with a large capital budget or a complex technology programme. It starts with the recognition that IT operations have an environmental impact that can be measured, managed, and reduced – and with the knowledge of how to do it systematically. That is what this workshop delivered.

Green IT Across the ASEAN Region

Malaysia is one of DASCIN’s most active markets, and this workshop reflects a growing appetite for structured sustainability education across ASEAN’s public and private sectors. With ESG reporting requirements evolving across the region and governments increasingly expected to demonstrate environmental leadership, demand for practical, framework-based Green IT training is accelerating.

DASCIN will continue to deliver Green IT programmes across the region through its network of Accredited Training Organizations – and through direct engagements like this one, where the goal is not just certification but genuine capability building in the organizations shaping the region’s digital future.
